LEARN ALL ABOUT MAJOR SCALE HARMONY

This blog post is all about understanding Major Scale Harmony, major and minor chords in a scale and the popular patterns used across most genres of songs. To start with, let us first understand what is scale harmony. In simple words, scale harmony can be referred to the chords that are found in a scale. In a case where we already know the scale of a particular song, scale harmony will tell us what chord choices we have, to play the song.
Let us take an example to understand the concept better. Here we are talking about the C Major scale. Notes in a C Major Scale - C, D , E, F, G, A, B, C
Melody of the song in C major scale - The melody of the song will be made only using these notes
Chords - The chords used to play the song will be made using the notes of the C major scale
As we studied in “Chord Construction” lesson 10, we make a major chord by taking (1,3,5) note of major scale and minor chord by using (1, b3, 5) of major scale. Do check this out for a better understanding.
So, to understand the concept better, do write down notes of the following chords:
1.Major: C, F, G
2.Minor: Dm, Em, Am

Now, there's a rule of thumb for you to understand -
In a major scale,
•Major Chords: 1, 4, 5 degrees of the scale
•Minor Chords: 2, 3, 6 degrees of the scale
